You are being brung up on an assosciated hit on the FBI's data base. I have some similar things happen to me too, as I have an idiot running around about 40 miles from me that has the same First name, Middle initial, and last name. He does not have any respect for the laws, and apparently does not pay any of his bills. He also has the same birth date, things rather ugly at times.

Hope you get this straightened out.

Or you have an arrest record, that is still on someone's books, whether the charges were dropped or whatever. That will also trigger a delay. If you apply for the personal ID number Mike mentioned, you can find out what the hangup is, but it may mean you have to go to a federal marshall office somewhere or something similar to amend the record. Happened to a poster here sometime ago.

I have the same problem. I was an LEO with two agencies and then did government security work. I have been investigated by all military service branches, FBI, CIA, NSA, and more. I have no criminal record and the government knows all you can about an individual and yet I get delayed. I wrote to the FBI and they suggested that someone must have a birthdate, name, etc. similar to mine. On another occasion, they suggested that my prints/records are in a classified file so the average clerk cannot look at them until a cleared supervisor approves it. Makes it hard to buy firearms at gunshows. The alternative id number is one way to go.

I was delayed every time I bought a gun, maybe 30 times in a year. Then I accidently left off my SSAN and there was no delay. I haven't been delayed since. It's worth a try.

"[sarcasm]What, like, say maybe a SSN#!!!![/sarcasm]".........no like a "unique pesonal identification number (UPIN)" for line #9 on the newer 4473 form.

    Catfish,

You should be able to get the UPIN application from your FFL. Good luck gettting it approved in a timely manner. I applied back in April of last year and have not received it yet.

My father has the same problem, but guy lives in the same town.. The other guy isn't a criminal just a deadbeat and cayse a red flag to go up antwhere my dad tries to do any business. Has to show I.D. at the bank to make sure addresses match. My father sold the timber off a piece of ground he owns and for some strange reason sent the check for $321,000 to the other guy, like I said he isn't a criminal, had the check forwarded to my dad. Smart enough to know if he tried to cash that one he was going to jail.

Sorry catfish, not tring to hijack your thread. Good luck, I know this aggravates my dad everytime he goes to buy or transfer a firearm.
