Attention S&W 29 Experts
I have a S&W Classic Hunter I bought back around 1990. It has to be my favorite pistol I own. It is so much more accurate than any 44 I have shot. I am about to send off for my letter from S&W, but I am a little too impatient.
I have never seen another one like it blued. Seen plenty 629s that are identical. It has a full lug and unfluted cylinder. I remember having to wait quite a while on it. My dad had FFL back then. It came with Pachmeyers. I put some rosewoods on it because I loved them. Genius here is now looking for another set. It is a 29-5 and the serial is BE271XX. I have babied this thing. It has been OVERLY taken care of. I had to return it to S&W once a few months after I got it because the catch on the cylinder was not working. It came back perfect. I never got the box back, and am desperately looking for another.
If ANYONE can help me learn a little more about my gun, I would greatly appreciate it. Like I said, I have never seen another like it. Maybe I wasn't looking hard enough. I am looking for ANY info I can find. I am not looking to sell it, but I would like to know its value, specifics, etc.
Thanks as always guys

So far I have found:
Classic Hunter Model 29-5, 6 in. barrel
.440" target trigger
.500" target hammer
Full lug barrel
Non fluted cylinder
Red ramp front and white outline rear sights
Hogue combat grips
Product code 101282
Limited production 1991.
ANIB value $650 but probably higher as my Standard Catalog is couple years old. (3rd Edition)
If it had the tapered barrel it would be worth 4 times as much. Only nine of those.0 -
Any idea where I could find a pic of one with a tapered barrel? 0 -
They never made a Classic Hunter with a tapered barrel, or without a full lug. If it were a standard early version it would be worth more...possibly like $800.00-1000.00, but not 4x.

Standard Catalog says 9 tapered barrels were made and value at $2000. These are reintroduction models being discussed here, 1991.
Sorry, that was 2 not 4 thousand.0
