M14 USGI NM Barrel question

Are these barrel chrome lined?

    I am not sure on this but I don't believe that these barrels are chrome lined. They were not intended for combat use and it is generally thought that chrome lining will effect the accuracy of barrels. That is not to say that some may have been made for the M21 sniper rifles that were used in combat that may have had the lining.

    I believe ammo guy is right on. Ordnance specs for NM barrels called for chromium molybdenum steel without chrome lining. At least, that was on initial contracts. I have an SAK standard size NM barrel made by Saco Defense that appears to be without lining.

    There are probably other contractors, & there may have been changes to specs.

    Too bad they didn't stamp the chrome lined barrels with a C, as Colt did with their AR barrels. But, maybe that was a change in Ordnance specs.

    EDIT: I found an obscure reference stating that the first batch of 3,000 NM barrels produced by THE Springfield Armory were chrome lined, but all other USGI NM barrels were not.

    Thanks, I got out to shoot my M14 made by ArmsCorp that I got a few years back when I was living in Maryland. While I was cleaning it, it was to easy to clean. I used Hopper 9 then Sweat 7.62, then I got out very little copper, but I did got alot of carbon out with Hopper 9. The only time I had a easy time of cleaning a barrel is when it is chrome lined or a match barrel that has been lapped double or triple times.

    I shot on a U S Army Reserve rifle team from from the time the NM M14 was introduced as a competition rifle until the M16 came into use. I never heard any mention of chrome lined barrels on the M14.
