Camo dipping is one method commonly use today. It's called 'hydrographics' or 'water transfer'. This site has a video explaining the process:

    This one explains it also:

You can pay someone with the expertise to actually paint the camouflage on your rifle or firearm using Duracoat or Cerracoat but the cost will escalate due to the amount of time and labor involved.

There are dozens of shops that provide both services, do a search and generate a list.

    Best.

I've always thought that duracoats colors are off, as in they stick out. burlap and netting compliment the effectiveness any paintjob JMhO.

I Study the plants, tree bark, grass, fallen leaves ect in my area before I pick a color scheme and thenmtach and meld the colors as best I can.

    Edit:

Yes it is AC,the key things to hide IMHO are the scope objective, muzzle, and black bipod legs. They stick outlike sour thumbs.

A little liberally apllied spray paint to the muzzle and bi pod legs and and some netting over scope objective is a good start, again, IMhO..

Burlap is what I've always used. You can then insert native vegetation into it for added concealment. You can also use an old cast aside minnow seine as a poncho with burlap strips and native vegetation woven into it. Saves payin' out the wazoo for production camo outfits and is way more efective to boot.
