Twist rate for remington 798 in 308?

    It is undoubtedly either 10 or 12 inch.
    Since a 12 inch will stabilize a 175 grain SMK and a 200 grain semipointed softnose, I wouldn't worry about it.

    If you just must know, you can measure it for yourself.
    Take a swivel handle cleaning rod and start a tight patch.
    Put a little "flag" of masking tape on the rod well back from the gun.
    Make a mark on the rod even with some feature of the action.
    Push the rod until the little flag has made one complete revolution.
    Make another mark on the rod even with that feature.
    Pull the rod out ane measure the distance between the two marks. That is your twist rate in inches per turn.
    Mass produced barrels are a little variable in twist rate, especially if button rifled. Don't be surprised or upset if it comes out some odd fraction of an inch away from 10 or 12.
