Henry .17 HMR accuracy

Considering buying a Henry Varmint Express or Ocatagon barrel in .17
HMR. What size 100 yrd groups should I be able to get and with what ammo ?

    Hello, and welcome to our forum here on Gunbroker.

    I do understand that you are looking for what you can expect, but all firearms in this respect must be treated as individuals. What one that is identical might like, the other might hate. I would tell you that I have shot a couple of Golden Boy's from Henry, and they were exceedingly accurate for what they were. Don't expect it to be a one holer at 100 yards, or sub MOA for that matter, because that just is not going to happen, unless you are real lucky. The 17's are known to be sensative to wind, so that will very well come into play too.

    In all, you will have to test it to see what it likes and does not like.

    I was wondering what the other forum readers have experenced with a lever action 17HMR ? I am concerned about the capabilities of the lever. I can't operate a bolt very good due to a shoulder problem. I think a short throw lever will work.

    I love my Henry H001L, .22LR carbine. It shoot EXACTLY where I point it. ...but if you are looking for a short lever-throw, then the Henrys ain't for you.

    If .17 HMR is what you want in a levergun, then your choices are limited. If you want that with a short stroke, then you may be out of luck.[V]

    The current short-throw champion is the Browning BL-22, if rimfire is what you're wanting. Its bigger brother, the BLR is the current centerfire levergun, with a short stroke. Ruger was making a levergun along the lines of their 10/22, and its lever had a short stroke. Then, there is the old Marlin Levermatic series. They are long out of production.

    EDIT:

    Another possibility may be getting ahold of a Uberti-manufactured copy of the Winchester '73, in .22LR. Some Cowboy Action Shooting-oriented gunsmiths shorten the lever-throw by installing a "short-stroke" kit. This still leaves you, though, without the .17 HMR that you wanted, and the .22LR Uberti '73 is a little hard to find.[V]

    EDIT #2:

    Ruger did produce some .17 HMR leverguns, but for a short time. Here are some RUGER 96/17 Leverguns for sale on GunBroker:
