Ruger 10 22
HI,
I have purchased a rugher 10-22 and had it modified to 17 mach 2, new barrel, springs etc in receiver.
I am hearing that the 17hmr is not working in 10-22s, has anyone heard anything about using 17 mach 2s if the rifle is correctlly modified? thanks

Hi-
can someone answer this question?
I have just had a ruger 10-22 made up for a 17 mach 2, new barrel, heavier springs etc, everthing the gunsmith said to have done.
I now hear that the 17HMR is not to be used with the 10-22 mag, but can the 17 mach 2 be used with the 10-22 22lr receiver with the changes made above? thanks0 -
I've worked on several 10/22, but 1 3/4 to 2 # is as light as I like to go with the factory innards. If you really need to go that light I'd start with a Volquartsen hammer/sear/trigger and then follow the advice of folks that have travelled that road. 0 -
pretty much impossible with a factory housing and parts.
you may hear otherwise but the only way i know of is to polish every thing and leave the trigger return spring out. then you will have to reset it every time manually.0 -
KIDD offers a 2 stage that is just under 2lbs and then breaks at 7oz 0 -
A Volquartsen hammer w/springs and a little careful polishing usually gets them to around 2-2 1/2lbs. The hammer pack is much less exspensive than the whole trigger kit. I would think 1lb would be hard if not impossible to do with this. 0 -
To answer the question at hand, it is not impossible with the factory stuff, but it would be unsafe, and could lead to problems with the ATF. By the time you have a good trigger smith do it up for you so it is safe, you are still going to be over 2 ibs. It is not so much the poundage to an extent but the pre travel, and over travel.
The best trigger group to drop in, is by JARD, as we speak. It is not cheap, but it is the BEST.
