Powder for 21 inch 204 Ruger

I have a 21 inch 204 Ruger. I reload and would assume I should use a faster powder for my 21 inch 204 Ruger thn my 26 inch barrel...right?

    No. The powder that produces the best velocity in the 26 will produce the best velocity in the 21. Since each rifle is a law unto itself, you will still have to work up your loads for your 21 and your most accurate load in the 26 may not be the "one" for your 21. As an example, my Ruger likes the Nosler 39 gr. bullet in it's favorite load while my CZ does not care for that bullet at all.

    There are variables that play into a discussion such as this but it's hard to get folks to walk away from these old ideas about powder.

    If you are concerned about burning all of the powder in the charge in a shorter barrel, then yes.

    But sometimes it's as simple as increasing the neck tension slightly (and I do mean slightly!) and starting with a lesser load again or working with a load using a heavier/longer bullet but still based on the twist rate and re-testing your load.

    What powder/bullet combination are you asking about?

    I was looking at AA2015 or AA2230 and a 32 gr Vmax.

    Yes, Accurate 2015 is one of my favorites but 2230 is not great in this cartridge.

    V V N-130 would be a good one but the bargain of the week is the Ramshot X-Terminator which is on sale at Midway... Not the most efficient but the price makes it a little more justifiable. I put it slightly behind 2015. After that, its a toss up as to which one wastes more powder and fouls the barrel.
