Scope Assistance Needed

I would like to purchase an inexpensive illuminated reticle scope for a blued/wood mini 14 ranch rifle purchased here off GB. I reviewed some of the old posts, but none seemed to address illuminated reticles on the mini.

I am looking for a compact model scope at a reasonable price ($100-$300). This will be for a hog gun set up with shots up to 100 yards in light and low-light (dark) conditions.

Looking on the internet, I have seen the following combinations that are reported to have good reviews on the mini.

NcSTARr 3 - 9x42 mm
Burris 3-9x Compact
Leupold Vari-XII 3X9 Compact
BSA

What about Tru-GLO scopes? Don't know much about them. Would they fit this application?

I know the mini is not known for its extreme accuracy, in case the thread starts heading that way.

    forget the ncstar, truglo, and bsa. check out a bushnell elite with firefly.

    I prefer the Burris and the Leupold. I have both, they are great.

    I have a Tasco 3-9 X 40 with an illuminated reticle, it works great and has given great service over the last 10 or 15 years. I acquired it on a rifle from a pawn shop in the mid 90's, used it one several hog hunting rigs in South Texas until recently.

    The only marking on it is ER3940WA on the bottom and made in Japan. You might keep an eye out for a similar one on the auctions, probably be able to pick it up fairly cheap. I've been pleased with mine.

    bnailon, Okay so your using this for shooting at hogs at a 100 yards. I think you should consider the Bushnell M&P 1x32 red/green T-Dot sight. You really don't need a 9x scope at 100 yards and less. The .223 doesn't require a scope worth $300 on such a light recoiling rifle at under 100 yards. You have an illuminated red reticle in day light and the green for low light. These can be had used for under $100 and new for $150. I currently have 4 of these that I use on a regular basis. True- Glow scopes would be okay for your mini again the .223 doesn't generate a lot of recoil. All of the scopes mentioned would probably be okay. I just think any 3x9 is over kill for what your doing. If the red dot is not your bag I would use a straight 3x or 4x scope. Hope this helps you out.

    For an inexpensive one...look at Sportsmanguide.com. I think they sell the Barska with illuminated recticle. I have one a varmit gun and seems to do ok for the price...$100 or less.
