    gearheaddad...more than likely this holster is for a Sauer (the intertwined SS on the mag) 38H. There were two holsters for the Sauer 38H (Type I and Type II) distingished mainly by the way they closed. The one you show is clearly a Type II. Check closely (perhaps with a glass) for markings. Inside the flap might say "Sauer 7.65" and beneath the closing strap the letter Akah surmounted with a wreath and crossed rifles and D.R.G.M (the name of the maker). Sometimes with well used holsters the marking are hard (or impossible!) to see. It is made out of cowhide. They are neat little pistols and were the peer of the Mauser HSc and the Walther PP and PPk. They were very popular in the German military and police force. The pistol was produced by J.P.Sauer and Sohn in Suhl from 1939 to the end of the war and were produced in four variations for the German military. Hope this helps. Good shooting!
