when shipping ammo through fex ex or ups
is there a surcharge? for dangerous goods

No there is not a hazmat charge for ammo. UPS wants the box shipped from a hub with a label on the box saying small arms cartridges. 0 -
Fully loaded ammo is not dangerous material as far as UPS is concerned.

When shipping ammo you must put the letters ORM-D surrounded by a box and below it mark small arms ammunition. You don't need any fancy label.
This can be done in magic marker. The letters ORM-D should be a couple of inches long and probably be marked on 4 sides. You must also take it to a UPS hub and you can ship it normal ground. Not sure about FED/EX.
Just make sure that the box is secure and not have anything bouncing around inside.0 -
all states are probably different,put small arms ammo the first time i used UPS, they marked it out,just need the ORM-D sticker...you will need to put in your info in there puter,so give yourself a extra 10 minutes,next time the info will be there,need to put the shipping to info in...this is in florida... 0 -
HAZMAT charges for ordinary ball ammo do not kick in until one shipment weighs 66 lbs or more. PS- States not different- regulated by Federal Dept of Transportation. 0 -

no extra charges with either fed ex or ups
i called fed ex the 800 # told the lady that answered the phone i need to send a 10lb box of ammunition.
she said theres a hazmat dangerous goods surcharge of 65.00.
i know this could not be true too many ammo give aways.
all i do is
mark the box ORM-D surrounded by a box and label small arms ammunition. take to directly to ups station not some office or other hub.

No, the states have nothing to do about it, it is what the Federal regulations are, and what UPS wants marked on the box. I just shipped some ammo last week.
They asked me what kind of ammo was in the box and I told them it was .270 and they said then to write small arms ammunition under the ORM-D label.0 -

our UPS is completely different when it comes to shipping ammo/marking on the box/...but back to the original thread stick with UPS...0 -

When I ship my giveaways UPS, I mark the box on 4 sides "ORM-D small arms ammunition". take to counter and the worker puts the shipping label on it....some will charge/add a fee for an "adult signature reqiuired"..which if I remermber right is an additional $5.25 per package. 0
