Henry big boy barrel removel
Help!!!
A customer want's to engrave his Henry Big Boy receiver. The barrel must be removed for the engraver to do his work. The problem I have is there is a part & spring(a bolt guide?) located on top of the barrel behind the chamber. I believe this needs to be removed before un-screwing the barrel. I think! I seem to not be able to solve this problem. It may come out with the barrel BUT I do not know. Henry's people who answer the phones seem not to care and show no willingness to help. The owner has bought this gun for his son who is soon coming home from Iraq and want's to commemorate this gun by engraving it for his tour of duty. If you are removing the barrel, then you need to strip that rifle of nearly evrything that is attached to the receiver:
BUTTSTOCK
HAMMER
MAINSPRING
LEVER
BREECHBOLT
TRIGGER
EXTRACTOR/ EJECTOR
MAGAZINE TUBES & HANGER
FOREND
CARTRIDGE LIFTER
...you get the point. Then, you will need a barrel vise & the right action wrench, too. If I am thinking correctly, then taking the guts out of the receiver should allow you to remove the parts that you are needing help with.

I am fully aware the item and item's needs to be removed first. But short of damaging the item, I can not ascertain how to remove it. it resists any attempt to pull, push, turn or pry out short of damaging it. As I stated Henry is unwilling to give me any tect. support. So pointing out the obvious serves no useful purpose in this case. The only lever gunsmith specialist I know of is stevesgunz. He may be able to help you as he works on almost all lever actions. 0
