Benelli Super 90

Hey guys, I have a 9 yr old Super 90 that has had about 3 boxes of 3" shells shot through and maybe another 7 boxes of Remington Sureshot 2 3/4 in shells.

While skeet shooting I fired the gun and there was a funny noise. The gun fired a ok. But when it pushes the next shell into the chamber it only goes about 3/4 of the way. you can tap it with your thumb and it will go ahead and lock.

The gun still fires fine, but it just won't lock the chamber. The ONLY thing I can find wrong is a rattle in the bolt. I got the gun apart and got the bolt out. The spring in the stock seems to be ok, it's very strong and responds well to tension.

My question is: How the hell do I get this bolt apart? It has a 1/4 silver pin in the top that appears like it could just be pulled out. However, I am afraid of damaging this part and it causing more problems later. On the top of the pin is a a straight line from the center of the pin to the outside. What does that mean? I take it to mean that maybe it needs to be rotated before it will come out.

I have no clue and the manual sucks. Any help would be appreciated.

    I have a person wanting to sell me the Benelli Super 90 Tactical. Pump or Auto action. Can I purchase a regular 26 or 28,30 " barrel for this ? If so , any clue where and how much..

    That pin is the cam pin. The firing pin goes thru that pin and it cannot be removed until the firing pin is removed. The reason for the line on the pin is to tell when the hole in the cam pin is lined up to insert the firing pin thru the cam pin.

    To take the bolt apart, press in on the back of the firing pin protruding from the rear of the bolt. While holding the firing pin against the spring pressure remove the small black retaining pin from the left side. That will release the firing pin. Be sure not to loose the little rubber "O" ring on the firing pin retaining pin.

    Once the firing pin & its spring are out, you can wiggle the bolt head in the bolt body and remove the cam pin (the one with the line on it). When the cam pin is out you can then remove the bolt and the spring behind it.

    You are awesome! I knew it was something simple. Now, I got it aprt and I see absolute nothing wrong with anything other than this incredibly hard (can't even comress it with my hands) spring is just rattling about the bolt. I don't know what kept it from making this noise before because I can find nothing inside the bolt that is broke. No pieces or anything.

    This is quite strange.

    It sure sounds like you have plastic residue from fired shells in the chamber remember a bore brush will NOT clean this stuff out of a chamber.

    Are you hearing the rattling when the bolt is in or out of the gun?

    Sry guys. Thx for all the help. I took the bolt apart found nothing, re-assembled and the gun works fine. We are all baffled as to what it was we fixed. but the gun works like a champ. Thx again.

    Check the hammer for any mushrooming where it impacts the firing pin. It's been known to happen and if it does it can occasionaly hang up when it passes through the tail of the bolt. File off any rough edges on the face of the bolt.
