Hello Dave we will need pictures of both. Condition is the biggest variable in value. of any firearm . Look at the post on top of forum labeled STICKY and post pictures

Even without pics, average 1899's with octagon barrels are going for $1200. Consecutive serial numbers will multiply that several times. You're looking at some substantial $$ if they are unaltered and in the condition you state.

    zx190 (Dave),

You can also do a "smart search" on the auction side. The box to check for closed auctions is on the left. Type in something like '99C' and 'octagon' and look for what comes up. The ones with bids in the last year or so will tell you what they are worth.

On a personal note, I've noticed that of the "recently-become-collectable" brands of rifles the Savage 99's seem to have taken a bigger than average hit. So if you can hold off selling them the price may go up once the economy levels out a bit.

    -good luck with this.

the 99 was one of the guns that gained value in great bounds in the last 2yrs because of nothing but popularity ( a lot of speculators hopeing to cash in on a quick buck ) so its naturaly going to take a big hit in value because it is falsely over valued now! those of us who have been around awhile have seen this before. LIFES LESSON #1 BE PATIENT. The prices are good and have been better but the ones most likely to hold a high value will be ones that are in very original condition, the average shooter will loose you money in this market!

The sad thing is it really is a remarkable weapon. It's the first 'high pressure' rifle on the market. It had the first 3000 fps round come through it. It followed European standards of producing 1000m rounds when most American rounds were happy with 100 yards. Like a lot of products that went to market, it's not the best that sells the most, it's the best marketed. The Savage 99 is no gimmick. And yes unfortunately, collector/speculators got involved and these rifles went through the roof.

THESE WERE BOUGHT NEW BY MY DAD AND GIVEN TO MY BROTHER AND I FOR CHRISTMAS ABOUT 30 YEARS AGO. THEY HAVE THE # C3830XX AND C3830XX. THESE WERE USED FOR A FEW YEARS. I DO NOT PLAN ON SELLING THEM. I WAS JUST TRYING TO FIND OUT WHAT THEY WERE WORTH. IF THEY EVER DO GO UP FOR SALE. THEY WILL BE POSTED ON GB...THANKS
