12 guage hollow points

I was watching a TV show (Castle) and in the opening scene one of the actors was holding a tactical type shotgun with a half dozen shells attached to the side of the butt stock. Someone said something and the actor pointed to the shells and said "he had his own home protection system---12 guage hollow points."

Do they not have anyone on these shows that has a grasp of weapons and ammunition?

    Almost every company that makes slugs has a HP version.

    I can not find a pic of it online but I have some Remington copper slugs that have a huge HP in them.

    A 'hollow point' on a standard Foster type slug is really just a marketing gimmick.

    This doesn't much change how it performs.

    I reposted on GD and was informed that hollow point slugs are legit. I guess I'm a little on the slow side.

    The question answers itself, doesn't it? [;)]

    Gun "errors" in popular entertainment on TV and movies are innumerable:

    Ordinary revolvers that hold 7-8-9 rounds, single-action pistols that "click" repeatedly with the trigger pulled on a empty chamber, shotgun racking sounds coming from pistols, gratuitous cocking of double action weapons, to all sorts of craziness ignoring the noise that guns SHOULD be making (eg like people standing around oblivious with full auto fire going on 3 feet from their head), totally anachronistic weapons appearing in period pieces, etc.

    Personally, I'm always amused and irked by irrational ballistics. In some cases characters are ridiculously knocked off their feet by pistol rounds, and in others characters suffer what should be debilitating wounds, but acting like they have just a scratch.

    And don't even get me started on gun safety violations that supposedly "trained" characters exhibit.
