Help identifying a gun

New to the forum, but not the site. About 6-7 years ago I bought a Chinese SKS and wanted to see if someone could help me identify it and discover it's value. I was going to post it for sale on here, but wanted to gather as much information as possible first. Thanks guys for anything you can tell me.

    It's value would depend on it's being factory original or not.

    Obviously it has a aftermarket U.S. stock, other then that it might have been reworked to function with AK magazines. There was a small number of Chinese SKS's that were imported that took AK magazines and had folding bayonets. The ones I have seen over the years had a shorter bayonet the standard SKS's though. If yours is a standard SKS that has been just converted to take AK mags? I don't see it as a big buck collectors item, just a shooter. Another factor would be the legality of the conversion for AK mags? It might affect it's value?

    I made a mistake in my previous post. The SKS "D" Model that takes AK mags and has a folding bayonet, does have a standard SKS bayonet as shown in this photo.

    Even if yours is a original "D" model, being it has been sporterized with the U.S. stock and scope mount, negatively affects it collectors value. Unless you can put it back in original condition with the stock it was imported in, and remove the scope mount with out any holes in the top cover, it's would be a hard sell to a collector.

    Otherwise your about a year to late, the nobama gun panic is pretty much over now. A SKS that took AK mags would have probably been a sure $500/$600 seller a year ago 1/20/09. A lot of folks were pooping their britches trying to get their hands on anything they could before the democraps banned them. What a difference a years makes 1/19/10.

    Around here, probably $250 to $300 as a shooter. The folding stock makes it attractive as a truck gun, I can't tell if it's an AK mag or an aftermarket duckbill Hi Cap mag, if an AK magazine it's more attractive but either way it would depend on whether it functions properly with those mags. Otherwise, drop $50 to $100 off the sale.

    You know, I thought about getting rid of it then. I really wish I would have now. Thanks for all the good info. Do you guys recommend a straight sale or an auction? What about shipping? Do I need to have a FFL person ship it or can I ship it my self? Do I need to send it to an FFL person?

    If crossing a state line, must go TO a FFL holder. You can ship- or use US Mail- as long as it goes TO a FFL. SOME FFLs require that it be shipped FROM a FFL, but that is their personal quirk, not law.
