can you order 24 in. bbl. on new savage rifles
I lost an older but beautiful savage 110e in 30-06 to thieves. very accurate!, and want to replace it. the problem is I can't seem to find one in 30-06 with the 24 in. bbl., older or new, that I had on the previous one. I was always told it took 24 inches to get all the good out of the ammo, especially those bigger calibers and handloads. Any info is really appreciated. Looking thru the auction I see 24 in. bbls. on 7mm and then they jump to 300 mag. and up. ???

No, not offered in years.
But the 30-06 will do just fine with a 22" barrel.
Whoever told you otherwise is incorrect.

+1, I have a .375 H&H with a barrel cut down to around 21". I was told everything from "You ain't going to be able to hit the broad side of a barn.", to "You better wear a mouth guard when you shoot that thing." It shoots just as good as it did with the 26" tube.
You will obviously lose a little velocity, but it will due just fine.

I would go with the 22 inch barrel...maybe you will lose 60 to 80 fps... 0
