1893 Marlin

I found an add for a 1893 Marlin lever action, but I have never heard of the caliber. 32 H.P.S is stamped on the barrel. What is it?

    Marlin refused to put another gun manufacturers name on their gun to indiicate caliber, thus they called the .32 Winchester Special the .32 HPS.
    Kinda like what Colt did with the .32 S&W and the .32 Colt New Police. Same round, different name.
    I have an 1893 Marlin that was originally chambered for a 32-40, that's crossed out and it's restamped ".32". It's a .32 Winchester Special but doesn't say either.
