HELP understanding rifle scopes????
I am looking for a high end scope for a 22 rimfire rifle. Most companies list rimfire models that have the objective?? set for rimfire. Some of the nicer scopes have adjustible objective lens. As long as the AO scopes have a setting for 50-100yards am I OK using an AO scope?? Any scope suggestions? This is for a Browning 52 22 lr rifle.

How much glass do you want, and what kind of ranges do you want to shoot at?
For 100 yards and less, I have a simmons 8pt 3-9x40 on a 10/22 that does fine. Non-adjustable objective, parallax is set for 100 yards. At less than 25 yards I have to turn down the magnification to 4-6x, anything higher and the target becomes a little blurry.
On my Savage 93 I have a Simmons WTC 6.5-20x50 with adjustable objective. Can get clear focus at 25 *feet* to infinity (and beyond!) at all magnification settings.
Don't think I've ever seen a scope with AO that had a magnification of less than 10 or 12x0 -
Consider a BSA Sweet 22, they have a bullet drop compensator knob. Three models and highest magnification is 12 or 14 I have one mounted. I also have 3 different 22 rifles using Bushnell Sportview AO 4 x 12 powers, and I really like them. 0 -

That rifle deserves better glass than what has been suggested. I would go with a Burris Fullfield II, Nikon Buckmaster, or Sightron SII, in the 4.5-14x range. They all have adjustable parrallax(the Nikon has a side focus), that can be adjusted down to about 50 feet or so. They can all be had for around $250.00.

FYI, I consider the Burris the better scope of a similarly priced Leupold, or even one designed to compete like the VX-II.0 -

Took the words right out of my mouth. The Browning version of the old Winchester 52 is a beautiful rifle and I don't think even a Leupold would be at all out of place. From the OP I'm guessing that the rifle will be used at 50 to 100 yds and a 4.5 to 14 or so should be just fine. The Bushnell Elites are fine also.
Just FYI, make certain you get an adjustable objective (AO) so you can focus at 25, 50 & 100 yds plus whatever range you're shooting. Generally speaking rimfires without an AO are set for 50 yds and centerfires are set for 100 yds.
If I were going to buy an inexpensive scope for the Browning 52 it would be a Mueller or an entry level Burris (Timberland) Nikon (ProStaff) or Leupold (Rifeman) brand & series.0 -
Thanks again guys. I'm really leaning toward a Leupold scope. I already have three on other guns and really like them. This Browning 52 is really a nice gun and I'm not going to put a cheap scope on it. I've not heard too many good things about BSA, maybe they got their act together now, but in the past they were poorly made. I really appreciate the input...... 0
