Need Input on Different Guns! BAR, R-25, R-1

I have hunted for the past few years and always used a buddy's gun. I am more into pheasant hunting and have been very happy with my Beretta over/under. I want to buy my first deer rifle. I have a very good budget of under 2k. I am currently looking at the Remington R-25, Browning BAR, and The Benelli R-1 and it is important to add that I want a used gun. I do want a semi gun because in addition to Deer I want to take larger game as well (Moose, Bear and Caribou). I am thinking about a .308 caliber I am interested in any advice in this area. Thank you.

    I like the BAR the best of those. No experience with the Benelli but I find the AR-10 are just to heavy for me to carry hunting. The BARs I have been around seem very accurate, would like to have one myself. Most semi-auto problems are cleaning or mag related.

    308 cal is enough, if you think more big game in your future maybe the 300 WSM or 270 WSM(I have one in bolt and love it) They will all be short trac models.

    A Monarch scope would work well on top, but that's more opinion as there are a lot of good scopes out there, a lot of junk to.

    You picked 3 very good rifles to choose from, from a semi-automatic standpoint. However, you might want to think about a bolt action, as some states will not allow semi-auto's for deer hunting.

    If you are going to stay out of big grizzly territory, then the 308 round will do fine. If you are going to the Yukon, Alaska, or anywhere there are girzzlie's, you should go bigger.

    Of the three rifles you listed I would go with the R-25, as someone else said DPMS....the R-25 is made by DPMS. If you are going into big bear territory you need a bolt action in a bigger caliber, starting with 338 Mag.

    BAR in 308 or 30-06 is hard to beat in a semi auto hunting rifle. I might even throw in the old .270 winchester into the group. Especially if you are planning on long shots in Caribou land. I never hunted moose but almost hit one with a rental car in Maine. With your budget you can add some really good glass to the BAR

    i shoot a bar in .338 win mag and a benelli r1 in 300 win mag. both are excellent rifles. if i had to choose i like the bar best but it is really a toss up. you can tell i like cartridges with more power that the .308.

    The designation LAR-8 is made by rock river arms for their .308 rifles.. The LAR-8 is an AR-10 platform that uses FAL type magazines.

    I would go with a DPMS brand rifle, the LR-30L, though I would get one with a lower that has collapsible stock extension, not the A2 stock thats standard with the LR-30L... It is the one at the very bottom of the link to DPMS.

    This configuration is also available in .243 winchester .260 remington, & .338 federal

    Good used BARs are easy to find . The Rem R25 and the R-1 are much harder to find . The BAR is very dependable when properly maintained ( disassemble and clean ) . If I had 2K to spend my choice would be a new Short-Trak in .308 Win. it is the lightest of the group you mentioned .
