Wireless Router question

I currently have Dish Network Internet Access with my own wireless router. Going to switch to AT&T through the phone lines that recently became available. Will the router need to be reprogramed or can I just plug in from the AT&T jack and go?

    I beleive the wireless device takes the incoming signal via the input plug and then converts it to a radio frequency to your computer. It does not care what the input is as long as it is the same input speed (baud).

    Depends on how dish does the set up...

    For DSL, you will need to enter the username and password that they create for your account, just like old dialup stuff.

    Dish may be DHCP based or similar.

    I'd reset the router back to factory defaults and re-set it up. Should only take a few minutes.

    DSL requires a modem & a router. ATT supplies a combo unit that is both a modem & a wireless/wired router. It is connected to a telephone jack by a telephone cable. You can then Cat5 it to your current router & it should be good to go. I would also shut off the wireless feature on the ATT unit if you choose to use your current router. Also, if the DSL is used for voice communication, you need to filter it from any jack an actual telephone is connected to. I connect my DSL to a jack that does not have a telephone connected to it. The base station for actual telephone service is connected to a different jack with a 2 line DSL filter from ATT.

    You will get a router from att that has a phone line jack and a LAN output jack. You can put your wireless router behind it but you need to put your dsl mode
    in gateway mode and set your witless router to make a connection via pppoe. This sounds hard but if you do a search for "gateway mode" + the model of your router you should find step by step instructions.

    One more thing about dsl ... Make sure you use those filters that they give you on everything that connects to a phone line (eg satellite box, alarm, phones, etc) or you will have weird connection problems.

    I plan on using my wireless router if I can. I see no reason to pay AT&T $100 for a wireless router and then hook it up to my wireless router. I am aware that I may need or want to wire a seperate jack for the Internet Service directly back to the AT&T interface where it comes into my house

    You can just plug it into the usb port on the back of the at&t internet box. Simple and easy

    At&t has no filters all there is the box for internet and there are usb ports in the back for other computers either hardwired or a wireless router
