    lever fan,

Good evening, and welcome to the forums here on Gunbroker.

I am not sure about the 3 leaf clover stamp on your 38-55, but I think it could possibly be an import marking from the importing country.

As for your 32-40, as you might know the 26 inch barrel was a standard feature, as was the FULL length magazine tube. If the magazine tube is factory, then most likely so is the short barrel, special ordered. To be absolutely sure, we will need to see pictures that are clear and close up of the magazine tube, and barrel. Also pictures of your 38-55 would be a help. There is a stick thread near the top of the Ask the Experts forum, that explains how to post pictures. you will need to use a photo hosting URL, such as www.photobucket.com

Bert H., is our resident winchester expert, and he will be along shortly. He is among the best of the best...at least twice as good as Midas dreamed of being. If he has a complete serial number, he can give you almost down to the month your rifles were born. Untill then, there is a sticky or two near the top of the Experts forum, that has a bunch of information on the 1894's...mostly provided by Bert, and his research.

The marking on the underside of the 38-55 barrel could be almost anything, but it most likely is the steel manufacturer's marking or and inspection stamp. If possible, please post (or send me) a clear picture of it.

The barrel length on your 32-40 is suspicious. A few pictures of the front 12-inches of the barrel, the front sight dovetail cut, and muzzle face will most likely help solve the mystery.
