Remington 512X. What's The Screw Do?

There is a screw in the bottom of the barrel & under the mag tube. It's located 6 1/2 inches forward of the receiver. What it's purpose?

  IMO, It's a spacer to keep the magazine tube straight and unbent from the pressure of the stock against it. It also ensures a uniform space between the magazine tube and barrel.
