Unertl Hawk 4X

I recently bought a Unertl Hawk 4X in very good condition on eBay. I am puzzled by the uncovered slotted screws on the bossings holding the covered adjustment knobs. Are these to lock the adjustment settings? Should they be loosened before making adjustments?

  They may hold the turret to the tube or the erector tube inside the tube. Wait for somebody with the knowhow before you loosen them.

  DO NOT touch those screws! They are as Hawk Carse says--to hold the turrets to the scope body and internal parts in place. You do not want that stuff moving around.
