Recommnedations wanted for pistol storage

Any recommendations on the best way to store pistols in a gun safe? In the case or out?

    Ive been told both, and have heard pro's and con's on both. Lets see what kind of answers we get.

    i've always heard not to store guns in cases because they can hold humidity and cause rust if not properly oiled and checked regularly... all mine are wiped down every other month regardless of whether or not they leave the safe

    i store mine in gunsocks made for handguns. protects them from scratches but will not trap moisture. i have reblued alot of guns that were stored in cases that were a little damp when the gun was stored in them.

    Don't keep them in the box, which were never designed for storage, or in the case because the moisture issue is very real and if you live in a humid climate you can expect to see rust. Bore Stores, Gun Socks, various silicone socks and even vapor bags (like the old Bianchi Blue Bags) all have their supporters and all of these can work well. If you just want to go very basic then lightly oil the pistol, wrap it loosely in a plain old cotton towel or wash cloth and forget about it. The cotton won't hard the finish and it won't trap moisture.

    I don't doubt that cotton will work as stated, but I sure am surprised and would have a hard time trusting it.
    Anyone know what it is about cotton that would give it an advantage over other material? If I understood it, I might be able to accept the idea more readily.[?][?]

    There is not advantage to cotton over the one stated: BASIC...Which means cheap! Otherwise refer to the other methods I mentioned.
