4" or 6" revolver for night stand?

Good morning all, I would like you opinion (I know that this is dangerous) on which would be a better all around barrel length for a night stand gun. Here is the options... a 6" GP100 or a 4" GP100. Personally I'm leaning towards the 4" as this is about as large as I would want to carry on my side in the woods. Thanks for all of your input.

    Longer barrels are cause for concern on defensive revolvers.

    My own nighstand piece is a S&W 65 in 4".

    The 4" is a better choice. It is very easy for a trained person to take a pistol away from you. The longer barrel makes it even easier. The longer barrel would make a slightly better choice for wearing as a side arm in the woods where a longer shot might be necessary.

    Man, if you have marauding nightstands in your woods, use the longest barrel you can find! Those things are MEAN!
    Never heard of a nightstand grabbing a barrel, though....

    green mile....longer barrels typically are for longer ranges and in a bedroom well, that is not an issue. Since you asked for our opinions, beside my bed is a pump 12g shotgun, extended mag with #OO (which is what I would reach for first)and in my nightstand I have my Glock 36 with 230g hardball/nightsights and exactly what you mention, a Ruger GP100 in 4" with 125g. Hope this helps! Lets hope you (we) never have to reach for it (them).

    4". . .no brainer.

    Shorter barrel is faster and better handling and is harder to seize than one with a longer barrel.

    6" gun has a little more power, and is easier to aim due to the longer sighting radius. That makes it better for hunting and outdoor shooting at long ranges. But indoors, you aren't going to be taking a shot more than 20' away, and pinpoint accuracy is irrelevant.

    Being Devil's advocate, a 6" gun is more visually intimidating, but I don't think this small effect outweighs the advantages of the shorter barreled gun.

    By the way, you didn't ask, but LESS than a 4" bbl is perfectly fine for indoor use too. I'd say there is nothing wrong with a 3" or even 2" barrel for this purpose.

    The rare occasions when I actually leave a "nightstand" gun, I most often use my 2" CCW .38 snubnose for this purpose. If that's not the one, my "go to" gun will either be a 4" or 2" .357 Smith depending on where I am. The only reason I'd use a 6" gun for this purpose is if I were camping and my "nightstand" were in a cabin in the woods or in a sleeping bag!

    Hands down the 4 incher, or a 2 1/2 inch S&W 66 or 686. Easy to store, and easy to weild.

    2" or 3" model 36/60 S&W is just about perfect for the nightstand. Barrel length is not an issue of being to short for night time defensive purposes. A set of crimson trace laser stocks would be a plus.
