Book Value of a Colt Python

Hello

I have a opportunity to purchase a colt python with a 6 in bbl. its 80% condition with one piece rubber grips!

Its certainly not a collector but would be a solid shooter...

could anyone give me a rough book (top and bottom end) value given that information please...

I'd like to give someone the serial number to check year to!

  If you're buying a 80% gun to shoot, I'd try to stay in the $400- $475 range. Colt Pythons come with many options as far as finish- barrel lenghts, and it would be hard to give an accurate price without actually seeing a picture. Send the the # and I'll tell you when it was made.

  my book shows NO S/N in the "K" range, without the "K" it would fall in the 1961 production range.

  K prefix started in 1980, your gun was made late 1981.

  Even with the rubber grips and having only 80% finish, that Python would sell for $600 around here. You can't find a working Python in the Northeast for less than that. Even finding a Diamondback for under six is getting hard.
  
  If you can get it for less, buy it, if it's a smooth gun that locks up tight. 80% finish is fine for a shooter, and you can always get it refinished later if you want.
  
  Six inch Pythons are great.
