Shoot 32acp in 32 S&W ??
Going thru topics I see ammo questions, so I've got one for you. A neighbor has a few little revs. in .32 S&W, most are the 5 shot nickle top break tho he has a couple H&R snubbies mkd. 32 long. He has had difficulty finding ammo, and if he does the price is too much for him to bear. For the past half dozen yrs. or so he has been shooting .32acp in these revs. Obviously it has a rim of some sort, it chambers and ejects. Is this really viable or is he playing with fire?

The 32ACP like the 25ACP, 38Auto and 38Super Auto all are semi rimmed and not rimless cartridges.
The 32ACP has 22% greater chamber pressure than both the 32S&W Long and short.
32S&W Short and 32S&W Long cartridges have the same chamber pressure.
I doubt 32ACPs will burst any five shot cylinder because of the location of cylinder locking cuts but the added pressure may loosen up top break revolvers at the cylinder catch.
There should be no problem in modern 32S&W Long revolvers.
I'd recommend buying brass and reloading.
32Long brass could probably be used for all revolvers if wadcutters are used in the 32Short cylinders.0 -
fwiw Fiocchi sells .32 long target ammo very resnably, check at midway or grafs 0 -
Some of these were made for blackpowder only you know...
It might chamber and extract but it's way overpressure for them.0 -
I shoot surplus 32 acp in my modern 32 S&W revolvers from time to time with no problems. However, I wouldn't recommend the practice with older revolvers. 0 -
Maybe but I would not shoot factory loaded, to much pressure...reloads loaded way down with 32 S&W load info maybe... 0 -
If your neighbor has been shooting .32 ACP for six years w/o a problem, I'd guess that his guns are strong enough to handle the pressure.
+1 to v35 for an informative post.0
