Winchester 1873 22 short
I bought a Winchester 1873 the other day, was wondering when it was made and a rough estimate on price. This one has a round barrel, some I saw online had an octagon. Serial # is 20199X B. All the bluing has turned brown, stock shows some dings and carry marks. The action is tight, and everything works as it should. Only 1 screw head shows any evidence of buggering.

Your old Winchester was made sometime in late 1886 to early 1887. Winchester introduced the .22 rimfire Model 1873 in 1884. Roughly 9 out of every 10 Model 1873 Sporting Rifles was made with an octagon barrel, but even though the round barrel is rarer, it typically sells for slightly less money than an identical one with an octagon barrel.
Your rifle's condition is precisely as it should be for a 114-year old gun. It does not appear to have ever been refinished, and it has a pleasing patina. Exactly how much it is worth is very subjective, and no two collectors will agree. That said, it is worth at least $1800 in my opinion.0
