Remington 1100 12 ga. magnum question
I have an early 70's vintage Remington 1100 that I shoot 2 3/4 inch shell from.The receiver is only marked REMINGTON 1100.The barrel is marked for 2 3/4 inch shells.
I've seen some 1100's that the receiver was marked MAGNUM, and could shoot 3 inch shells and others where the receiver was not marked MAGNUM ,but the barrel was marked for 2 3/4 and 3 inch shells.
My question is would a different barrel for 3 inch shells allow me use my receiver for 3 inch shells? Are they somewhat interchangeable and does the barrel or receiver dictate shell size used?

I have a 3" barrel for my standard 2 3/4" 1100. You can use them for magnum 2 3/4" and steel shot 3". The barrel came with instructions not to use the heavier 3" lead loads. A standard barrel has 2 gas ports and the 3" magnum has a single gas port. The 3" barrel will not function with light or standard 2 3/4" shells. 0 -
It is extremely unlikely you can reliably shoot 3 inch shells out a non magnum marked receiver. The ejection port is longer on the magnum thus the on marked receiver should and most of the time will not eject a 3 inch shell. The chamber length of the barrel makes no difference 0
