Walther PPK- Date of Manufacture
I picked up a used Interarms.380 Stainless Walther PPK at a gun show today and am curious as to when it was manufactured. I did a google search and it seems there are not any published records on this info. I found a thread that had a number of folks that posted their serial numbers and the date on the test target. Mine did not come with the test target.
Mine has a much lower serial number (see red numbers in table below)than those on the list with dates. Does anyone have a lower serial number Stainless PPK and know when it was manufactured?
Model Finish Caliber Serial Test target date
PPK stainless .380 A0086xx ???????
PPK stainless .380 A043149 11/7/1989
PPK stainless .380 A0509xx 1990 purchase
PPK stainless .380 A058xxx 6/19/1991
PPK stainless .380 A067365 1993 purchase
PPK stainless .380 A068995 7/28/1993
PPK stainless .380 A079617 2/2/1995
Edit: as I look at this, it seems they were making about 7000 per year in the time frames listed. If I extrapolate back at the same rate, this would have mine manufactured in 1984. Does that seem reasonable?

Provided the slide says it is an Interarms pistol, then that would be a good guess.0 -

Thanks, Yes it is an Interarms pistol.
There is one problem with my logic though. If we extrapolate back to serial number zero. we would say it was made in 1982. The problem is Ranger started production in 1978 in Gadsen, AL (Distributed by Interarms) which leaves us a gap of 4 years. So either they made less numbers in the early years or they started production of the SS version later than 1978. Either way, with an 8000 range serial number this pistol seems to be an early model.0
