    Due to the crudeness of the parts, construction and workmanship, lack of markings etc. I don't believe it's a authentic 19th Century military belt/holster pistol. It's gives the impression of being one of the Kiber Pass specials that the regional village blacksmiths put together for the tourist trade.

    The lock appears to be from around 1820, but the barrel is too badly pitted to identify. Tourists have been bringing home similar guns for at least 2 centuries.

    The Khyber Pass area is also known as the Hindu Kush; it is on the Pakistan/Afghanistan border.

    For estate purposes, you can safely assume that the value is zero.

    It is French. The barrel mark IDs it made St. Etienne. This type of pistol dates as early as around 1800 and the photo shows it was arsenal converted from flint to percussion. It has fallen on hard times with the barrel band improvised and the hammer likely a replacement.

    Based on the info at hand it looks like this one probably dates from around 1815. With measurement of barrel, lock and LOA it might be possible to ID the model number.

    Not worth a lot but not worthless. Couple hundred dollars in its 'survivor' condition.

    Best source of French military pistol info is Brooker - "Armes de Poing Militaires Francaises" - from the wheellock up to early cartridge revolvers.
