Another Upper Question
I am looking at DPMS 5.56 uppers on their site. One of the upgrade options is from from a steel bolt carrier to a chromium bolt carrier. Is this worth the 30 bucks? And whats the difference. Pay in mind im a novice at this, is why im asking.

The chrome bolt is simply slipperier in the action compared to the steel. For $30 I would see it as a rather cheap aid in making the rifle a bit more reliable. The chrome couses less friction as the carrier moves back and forth in the upper. I have a few of these and they work quite well. You also might want to check to see if this is hard chrome if so it would make the outside surface a little harder as well. Buy it 0 -
It may just be me, but hard chrome seems easier to clean, too, especially the carbon in the carrier behind the bolt rings. I have 3 that clean easier after a week in the prairie dog pastures than an M-16 after a weekend at a combat match. 0 -

That is also another bonus the carbon doesn't stick very well and most of the time it just wipes off.0
