What kind of accuracy (100 yds) are you guys getting from a benchrest setup? Can I expect 3 inch groups, or worst case, would all shots generally hit within a 6 inch paper plate (assuming no major operator error/flinching/loose scope mounts, etc)? Also, please comment on felt recoil. I've read on here that these buggers, due to their poor stock design, kick like a mule. I'm interested in getting one in 7mm-08, but I would enjoy feedback from whatever caliber you are shooting.
Also, are these guns louder (muzzle blast) than typical bolt action deer rifles such as a Winchester 70, Browning A-bolt II, or Ruger 77 Mark II?
So summarizing: Those of you with first hand experience with these single shot rifles, please give me a thumbs up or thumbs down on accuracy, felt recoil, and muzzle blast. Thanks, mak

    I have an H&R handy in .243 cal and have had two others,one in .223 and one in.243. The .223 was the most accurate of the bunch with an average of 1" to 1 1/2". The .243 that I have now gives me an average of about 2" groups but I havn't worked up any reload tests yet. As for felt recoil it's a little more than my Rem.7600 .243. as for noise about the same. These are good allaround guns but they are NOT bench rest shooters. If you do get one make sure that you get a newer model with the extractor and not the ejector system.

    I have one in .223. I get groups consistently under 1 inch at 100 yards shooting from a rest. The .223 recoil does not bother me - but I am used to a .45-70 Sharps and things like that.
    Bottom line - I'd buy another one if I had a need for it....

    I have two. One is .243 and the other is 30-06. Both produce 1-2" groups with premium factory ammo. I have worked up handloads for both and can get them under an inch!!

    i had one in 44mag was a great shooter but after 100 rounds it would break open after you shot it, i sent it back, they fixed it but again after a few 100 rounds it did it again, sent back again but this time when i got it back i sold it, figured it was too much trouble to keep around, mine was a new england handi rifle
