S&W revolver

I recently purchased a S&W 30-1. It is chambered in .38 Special. I have never seen a 30-1 in .38. Did S&W ever make one? Has the barrel and cylinder been changed? Thanks in advance for any info.

    have a s&w hammerless, breakdown, single trigger,nickle plated,32cal. gunsmith believes first edition.5 shot cylinder. ser.no.3963. anybody know value? fair condition, shoots. thanks! catchbigfish

    Welcome to the forums. Yes, you have a victory model. The Smith Victory models were made from 1942 to 1945 with serial numbers from V1 to V811119 during that period.

    Doing a little math yours was made about late 1944. The GHD are the initials of Guy H. Drewry, the inspector from 1930 to 1957.

    Nice old gun. Just remember that the 38 S&W is NOT the same round as the 38 special. They will not interchange.

    Thank you, I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, I was going to take it to a gun smith to see if it's safe to shoot. I think Im gonna like this site. Again thank you very much.

    You mean right before the hammer. In revolver parlance, it's called 'on the topstrap'.

    The '8' before the US property is a little US ordnance stamp. Flaming bomb. Look closely. Best, Joe
