Winchester 52 E question

I just picked up a a winchester 52E with a serial number E1229xx which according to the winchester dates of manufacture site was made in 1966. according to the Houze book the 52E didn't come out until the early 70's. Another odd thing is the barrel is a standard weight, not a heavyweight that's supposed to be, again according to Houze. The guy I got it from said he bought it new from winchester. Could the build date and barrel be correct?

    POSSIBLY A 'CLEAN-UP' GUN, PARTS/PIECES ASSEMBLEDFROM LEFTOVER PRODUCTION.

    I agree with the parts gun theory, but the serial number (1229xx) and the corresponding 1966 build date have me stumped. Winchester was still making 52D's in 1969 with serial numbers in the 124000 range. Hey Bert, can you weigh in on this one?
