I recently acquired a very nice blued 4" python and I'm wondering about it's dom. The serial # is f766xx. Are there any Colt experts out there that can help me out? Thanks alot for your replies. Kix

It sounds to me like the bolt that comes up from the bottom of the inner frame ( aka the cylinder stop ) is either partially obstructed by dirt or grit, or the spring that forces it up is broken. I wholeheartedly advise you to stop using this gun and take it to a competent gunsmith for repairs before something unfortunate happens to either you or the gun or both. It needs to be pulled apart and checked.

I dont think there is anything wrong with your Colt. I own a bunch of Pythons and other Colts and S&W revolvers. They all have a point during the cocking of the hammer when the cylinder will spin free.

With the hammer down the cylinder should be locked. As you start to pull the hammer back it will withdraw the bolt which will allow the cylinder to freewheel. As you continue to pull it back towards the end of it's travel the bolt should rise back up and engage the stops in the cylinder.
If it spins with the hammer down then the bolt is not locking the cylinder and is unsafe to fire.

Does anyone know or has anyone ever see a Python cylinder free wheel like a old colt with a loading gate? The cylinder will spin free but when you cock it for a SA pull it locks tight or if you put it between chambers on a DA pull it will line up and lock while pulling the trigger. For all intensvie purposes the cylinder does what its suppose to except it free wheels. I am not to informed on the Python but I am pretty gun savie but I have never seen a modern gun do that. Is it possible someone had a GS do some kind of custom work on it or is it broke??

Think U could have picked a little more original handle??

I have had f1shk1ller for over 20 years as an e-mail address, user name, etc... It seems maybe you should have chosen something different cause you had to put 41 on the end to make it work for you!! ;p
