CZ 97B Magazine problems
Purchased a good used pistol with what looked like a new magazine, Used dummy practice rounds to get used to loading and firing. No problems. Went to the range with my CWP class. I loaded 10 rounds of Federal Ball ammo full jacketed. Finished firing no problem with feed, but at the end the slide did not stay open and the magazine dropped about 3/16ths rather than the usual 1/4 to 1/2 inch wn release pushed. I have played with this and there seems to be a bit more travel vertically in the locked ready to shoot position as compared to a new magazine I purchased fron a CZ dealer. I can get the old magazine to stop the slide open if I push up on the magazine. The last clue is the bluing has worn off certain places.
A lot of stuff on feed problems with hollow points. Is this unique?
Thanks Daryl

I have the CZ97B and like it very much. I've not had any JHP feed problems, but I haven't tried them all. Golden Saber and Federal work fine for me.
Regarding the mags, the 97B takes the same mags as the EAA Witness and there are a few different makers out there of varying quality. I bought 5 spares from GunClip depot, 4 work great and one hasn't worked since day one. On yours, I suspect the mag follower is not engaging the slide stop in the mag well or if it is, the spring is a touch weak and not exerting enough upward pressure. If you want to give it a close exam, remove the slide assembly & put the slide stop in place, then seat the mag and you'll see the interaction between the slide stop & the follower. Other than that, how do you like the gun?0 -
I purchased an EAA Witness, compact in .45. It is accurate, heavy, and for some reason the recoil is really nasty. It hurts to shoot. I shoot 1911s with no problems. Anyway, I was thinking about going with the CZ97 and was wondering what you think of it. 0 -
I've a 97B and like it lots. I use factory mags loaded to 9 rounds and have no problems. When loading to 10, the mag may not hit home with the slide foward. Get some more new factory mags and enjoy your CZ, you won't not like it! 0 -
I like the feel of the gun as I have big hands. The gun is far more accurate trhan I can shoot. I also have a EAA witness match in 9 MM that I will probably use for my carry gun in a shoulder holster. I am trying to learn to shoot without using the sights. the CZ does well in that the bullets go where I point the gun. I am sure the sights are more accurate, but with age and Mac deg. thats about as good as I can do short of a scope.I appreciate your comments 0
