.308 Ammo Question

Hey Fellas I had about 1,500 rounds of .308 dumped on me a few days ago, 1000 of them are in 50 round cloth bandoliers x200 per ammo can the rest is loose. It looks to be mil surplus and just says F4 MF 83 on the bottom if that means anything, I don't personally own any rifles in that caliber so I would like to get rid of it but I have no idea how I would go about it, are there any legalities that I need to go through or anything? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Just picked up my new PTR-91 today and while I was there I picked up some surplus .308. It' marked M80, 75, 7.62, and OFV. Any ideas? Indian? If it is I've heard bad things about it, not sure I'll use it.

    Nato stuff (cross in circle stamp) and German (DAG)

    OK stuff if the cases aren't all corroded.

    FWIW good 7.62x51/308 headstamp ID somewhere in the stickies of falfiles.com

    I am not a cartridge collector, but DAG 93 may well mean Dynamit Nobel A.G. in Germany, made 1993. The cross-in-circle is the NATO acceptance mark, it is loaded to military specifications.

    A magnet will soon tell you whether you have steel bullets or not, but that would not prove anything. There have been a lot of rounds loaded with mild steel jackets softer than barrel steel.

    German NATO ammunition using cupro-nickel coated bullets.

    I believe it is "Hertenberger" with cupro-nickel plated bullets.

    I wouldn't worry about hurting the rifle, BUT, what were you hunting?
    Might be o.k. for squirrel or rabbit, but I would never use a non-expanding bullet on larger game like deer, bear, boar, etc.

    These have the fairly common Cupo-nickel jacket that the European's use on ammo. It is similar to the gilding metal(copper alloy) jackets we use. In shooting there is no difference in them. Some of the the hunting ammo that Norma makes use these type jackets.
