I see they're currently sold out of 7mm/08 barrels.
Maybe have your current barrel sleeved or find one in .243 or something and have it drilled and rifled?
Keep checking their site and hope for some new stock.

For the time and money it would take to swap...I don't believe that the threads are the same from the 788 to the 700...the extractor and lugs most definately are not.

I would just have a competant smith get a good 7mm blank, contour it, and thread it for your rifle, and you are done. 260 Remington would be another good one.

    Cnedeer,

You can turn your M788 into a 7mm-08 but not by the method suggested.

    The M788 threads are 1" x 20 TPI with a longer tenon.
    The M700 threads are 1.062" x 16 TPI with a shorter tenon.

I would check Brownells for a Shilen, Douglas or other less expensive blank (if you're trying to save money) then take it to a gunsmith to have it threaded, chambered and crowned.

Finding a used barrel will just take time and looking. It will still have to go to the gunsmith for fitting, timing and headspacing.

    Best.
