Hey cort, I use once fired brass. As for powder I use several, unique,w-231, power pistol and hs-6. Depends on what performance you want. For short barrels I use w-231. Any will work fine, but you will have some muzzle flash on the others.[:)]

Don't Forget Bulls-Eye powder ONE of if not the best powder you can use for 230 grain jacketed The 45ACP case can be loaded many many times IF you don't try to HOT ROD and load +P+ loads. "PRAISE THE HARD-BALL GUN"

    Karl,

What do you recommend as a starting load with Bullseye?

    Thanks,

Alliant states 5.7 gr. of Bullseye with a Speer 230 TMJ (plated) bullet. That sounds way too hot. I am thinking of starting around 4.0 and stopping about 4.7 gr.

I think your 4.7 would be just fine and I suspect it would be close to the 820-840 FPS range. see if you can find what your pistol likes the cases should close to each other about 3feet from your right foot if you shoot right handed .

I use 4.2 grains of Bullseye under a 230 gr FMJ. It gives me @ 775 FPS. Easy recoil and good follow-up. Never had a failure to feed yet.

The original military loading was 5.0 of a NON-canister grade of Bullseye. That might be a teensy bit warm in some guns, with some lots of today's canister grade powder. Safe, but a teensy bit warm.

I'd try something between Blackjack's excellent 4.2 and perhaps 4.7 grains under a 230 FMJ. Standard primers only.
