H&R Handy Gun - 410ga

Had one of these come into our shop last week. It's in pretty good shape with a small chip on the wood grip and the BBL has been reblued.

Tried searching completed auctions but nothing came up. What is it's range of worth?

    Unless it has been registered with BATF or has a 16" barrel it is an illigal gun.

    10 years in the federal slammer with sugar bugger bubba as a roomie if it's not papered. If you have the amnesty papers from the 60's, probably in the $500-$1,000 range. The chiped grip and reblued barrel would have a negative effect on it's collector value.

    I forgot to mention that: It's a Registered NFA Firearm and we're a Class III SOT. It's paperwork (FORM 1 from late 1950's) has been verified with NFA Branch.

    So.... I'll go with the $500 figure?

    I saw one of these when I was a kid. I always thought they were really interesting. If a fellow was to locate one, can he apply to the feds and get it registered? Or is it "junk"?

    Yes, it is too late to get one papered under the present law unless something changes. This is an area that should be changed in my opinion. There is no benefit to the public in having firearms like the H&R Handy Gun, Marbles gamegetter and the Ithaca auto and Burglar shotguns classified as NFA firearms. Think about a firearm like the Taurus 410 revolver and the single shot H&R Handy gun. A lttle bit of "rifleing in the Taurus revolver allows the "Judge" model 410 revolver to be classified as a Title I firearm. It's really ridiculos but it is presently the law. The H&R should be strictly a C&R firearm not subject to NFA rules.

    As far as their concerned there is no such thing as retroactive registration. If it wasn't papered before or during the Dec. 1968 amnesty your SOL.

    I was just reading in a recent issue of SAR that there is a open door for the ATF to have another "amnesty period" the way the law was originally written. Yet, after all this time, we have only seen one. :(

    The BATFE has nothing to do with calling for another amnesty (or even the first one), that is up to the Congress, not the ATF. I'm sure that Nancy is going to make that one of her top priorities.
