Aug 2, 1990 remember hearing on the news that Kuwait was invaded.
Aug 9, 1990 on a plane headed to Saudi Arabia as part of the RDF from 101st Abn Div.
Aug 10-Nov 22, 1990 Never knew I could eats so many MRE's; didn't know what HOT was.
Jan 17, 1991 28 degrees at night, 98 during the day. Wake up to frost on my fart sack. While on night guard duty see "lightning" on the northern horizon. Artillery and bombs.
24 Feb, 1991 First flight into Iraq, gave Saddam the 'left hook' into Kuwait. Carried thousands of troops in flight after flight. Went through 75000 rounds between me and gunner.
28 Feb, 1991 Carried first POW's out of Iraq. They were surrendingfrom the ground as we flew over. Swinging white towels over their heads like the Steelers 'Terrible Towels'.

  We were in Naples, Italy when Saddam attacked Kuwait. I remember telling my Mom when I talked to her that she should not worry because they will not going to send a nuke carrier through the Suez Canal. Well, 2 days later we are flying through the canal at 20 knots; so much for my theory. I could not believe how fast we were going. It was pretty cool to see the Egyptian military lining both sides of the canal. The Marines on the ship were manning just about every .50 cal gun the ship had. Once we got to the Red Sea, all we did was sail around in circles and launch birds, 24 hours a day. Boy, were we busy. Had it better than the ground pounders, though.
