ballistics question
I and a friend are discussing which bullet has more drop over 1000 yds...one shot directly into a 25 mph wind or one shot with the 25 mph.

In my experience, with the wind and against the wind makes no difference. Crosswind is the problem. While in the military, our PMI's taught us to only account for crosswinds. We made no windage adjustments when the wind was in our face or to our backs!! 0 -

Its a good question.
Bullets are designed to be highly aerodynamic. So front/back air movement (by design) barely affects the bullet flight.
For the sake of argument, lets take a .308 round travelling at 2700 fps. That's 1800+ miles per hour.
Compared to the equivalent of an 1800 mile per hour headwind the bullet is experiencing via its normal flight, another +/- 25 mph really isn't very much at all.
But, for purposes of the question, the one flying INTO the headwind will be experiencing 1825 mph of wind resistance. The one flying WITH the tailwind will be experiencing 1775 mph of wind resistance.
Therefore the one assisted by the tailwind will fly a LITTLE further (or have less drop, if you want to look at it that way).
How much? You'd have to go to the reference books for the exact amount, but its really an insignificant amount.0 -

the accelleration of gravity is 16 ft/sec, per/sec the bullet w/the tail wind will get to the target faster therefore will fall less. 0 -
