Charles Clawson?
Hi, I was at a gun show today and I seen at a book stand they had the Collector's Guide to Colt .45 Service Pistols Models of 1911 and 1911A1 Third Edition hard back. They were asking $150. Are these books selling for anything around that price?
Thanks
Thanks

What I do when I want to price a book, is go on line to a outfit called www.bookfinder.com Put in the books name and author, in less then 30 seconds you will get a handle on it's fair market value, from multiple booksellers.
Clawson's books have always been pricy. They're published in very limited editions and are snapped up quickly by collectors for the excellent information they contain.0 -
HI, Thanks for the reply and the website. I checked and the prices ranged from $139-317.50. I guess that he was not out of line. I still have a few new copies here that I bought a few years back. Maybe I'll have to throw them out on auction. 0 -
Check out the Clawson BIG BOOK it was only printed once and now you can buy a pistol for what the book cost IF you can find one.
EDITHello Rufe Snow I talk to MR. Clawson each year at the Louisville KY gun show and he always states that HE WILL NOT do a reprint of his big book I guess time will tell. It is a great book but I will never sell mine and I for one would like the new 1911 fans have the chance to buy this great book.0 -
Karl Karash is still listed on this site as selling the 3rd edition for $40:

HI Neal, I just checked out his website. I really wonder if he is selling anything. If you click on the order page the last it was updated was 3-15-07. I guess that could mean he didn't change the way he handles orders in almost 3 years. However, to me I really find that strange for a website. Three years in the computer world is almost a life time. 0 -
NEAL HAS THE BARGAIN TIP OF THE DAY. I just heard back from him and he still has them at that price!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 0 -
I paid $65 for my 3rd edition book, I was happy at that price, the $40.00 listed above is even better. 0 -

You got that right! I sold the one I had on Fleabay for $400+ eight years ago. God only knows what they are going for now.
It will be only a matter of time though before it's reprinted. When books become so valuable, the folks who control the copyright start seeing the dollar signs and release a second edition. The same thing happened to "The Book of Colt Firearms", the estate saw what they were going for, $$$$ and released a second edition.0 -
