what would be the differences between a 26in 308 hvy bbl and a 24in fluted bbl? I have a 26in hvy bbl but I always liked a shorter lengthed gun and was wanting to know if it would be worth changing out to a fluted bbl. it would be used for deer hunting only. whats the pros and cons of my situation? thanks.

i would think the 26" being heavier would have less felt recoil but would be heavier to carry in the field and maybe a little more accurate ,

the 24" should be a handier hunting rig

You might want to check out Bergara barrels for the T/C Encore. They're a good deal lighter and usually cost just under $200.00, I got a 7-08 from Natchez for $166.00. For "minute of deer" they should be fine.

For deer hunting with the Encore you would be fine with a 22" barrel or one even shorter. I had a 19.5" 6BR barrel that shot 1/4 inch groups. It sure makes for a handy-dandy rifle with a short barrel.

Deer never seem to notice the bullet speed as it goes through both lungs, nipping the top of the heart, dead is dead, so a barrel 4 inches shorter sure ain't gonna handicap you.

as dfletcher said the bergara barrels are better than the t/c barrels in quality.
