Remington 740 and 742 receivers: Interchangeable?

Are 740 and 742 receivers interchangeable or did the changes made to the 742 to correct the rail galling issue prevent that? Thanks

  I do not know if they will interchange or not, but Remington definitely did not fix the rail galling problem with the Model 742!

  I would have to say, yes, they are. My late father, shot out a 30-06 barrel on a 740. It was sent to Remington, and they in turn gave him a brand new 742 reciever and barrel. It still had the parts form the 740 in it...bolt carrier, bolt, and trigger group. It took many deer in the 740 chassis, and a bunch more as a 742...it struck again last fall, for the first time since his death in 1993...long live pop!
