BAR Belgium Stock Selection

I just inherited a BAR 30-06 semi-auto and have started to rehab the wood on the fore and aft of the stock. The question is - Did the Browning Co. use Birch on the forearm and walnut on the butt? They sure look like it after tung oil is applied. Really don't care if the wood matches per say. It does look kinda good this way.

  i have re furbished many browning stcoks... all i can say is. what is on the top is never what is on the bottom. wish i knew the secret to the wood work.

  they used walnut for both, but the lower grade stuff (sap wood)
