Are H414 abd W760 Identical?
I was at Cabelas last week and asked the guy at the counter for some W760. They were out but he had some H414 and said they were the same thing. He said Winchester hasn't made powder for years and just packages H414 under their label. He showed be a reloading manual wich had identical numbers (max/min loads, FPS, CUP) for both powders in any given load. It must be more than coincidence. Is anyone out there able to confirm or add to this piece of knowlege?

If they were the same; they'd be marked the same.
Don't allow some mullet behind a counter try to convince you that a pig is a deer no matter how hard he tries!
Just because some manual lists 2 powders with similar weights for a given load; don't assume they are identical.
Hodgdon (in Australia) makes H414, and Winchester powders are made.....?0 -
H414 is W760's ballistic twin. Checkout Hodgdon's data site.

I would work up a load and not simply substitute it for the loads you may already have!0 -
Sorry, gunnut. Both powders are the same. It is made at St Marks Florida, and the only difference is lot-lot variation. The complete list of identical twin powders is:
HP38 - W231
H110 - W296
HS6 - W540
HS7 - W571
H414 - W760
Contrary to some beliefs, W748 is NOT H335, however.0 -
Yep! same stuff -- check the loads at the Hodgdon data center 0 -
Even the producing companies have admited that W760 and H414 are the exact same powder. As Rocky said....you will still get lot to lot variations but, they are interchangeable. 0
