Ithaca /Tikka LSA-55 O/U 12/.222

I just bought a 70's vintage Ithaca Turkey Gun made by Tikka and have some questions for anyone who has owned one. It is a 12 GA over a .222 in excellent condition. I fired it a few rounds today and was impressed with the shotgun barrel. However, accuracy was very poor with the .222. I will put a good Leupold or Burris on it and try again tomorrow. The cheap scope on it now may be the problem. My questions:
What kind of accuracy did you get with the .222 barrel? Do you recommend using a scope on this gun for turkey hunting? Thanks for any information on this gun.

    Well, it was in the 80s that I had one,,,function was flawless,,as you stated... I really did not "ring out" the 222 for accuracy,,as for the design ,imo,,was built for utility work. Reasonable accuracy imo,,,would be 2" -3" at 100 yd. simply for the design of the firearm IS NOT a sub MOA type firearm...my recall could be flawed though[:I]...good luck..nambu
